When you close your store or shop and go home to your family, your website is still working for you. However, it is very common that the website is once created and never updated. Have you ever visited a website that has outdated information- like store hours, pricing or even location? Businesses go thru constant changes to stay in line with competition and the demand. It should be no difference to their website. Let’s go over few main reasons why you should make sure your website is up to date.
1. Most updated information
That seems like a base for your website. You definitely want give correct information about your business. Are your hours of operations current? Are you still listing correct products or services you offer? If you list pricing on your site- is it current as well? If you own a restaurant- is the menu on your website the same as the menu in your store? Those seems like basic questions, but you would be surprised how many business owners miss those.
2. Quality content
As a business owner you are constantly watching your competition to make sure you offer competitive rates and services. Your website also should be updated to meet the demands as well. I am sure you care about your ratings with search engines. After all, who would like to come up on the fiftieth page in Google? Search engines are constantly changing and to keep your ratings you need to adapt to those changes as well. Updating your website with trending keywords (terms that people are searching for thru search engines) is very important. Also keeping your website interesting attracts more customers. 3. Interactive website
It is very important to keep your website to be user friendly. If you have a blog, when was the last time you posted something? Have you responded to all of the comments or questions? It is crucial to do that. Just from sharing my personal experience- there was a time when I needed answer to very important question concerning my health. So I found a blog and I posted my question. Unfortunately, I have not heard anything back until months later. Do you think I would ever go back to that business with another question or concern? Another thing to consider is if your website is mobile friendly. A lot of people use their smart phones or tablets to research things online. Making sure that your website us compatible with those devices is very important to keep those customers engaged.
4. Administrative Access
It is very important to periodically review who has access to making changes on your website. That is especially important if you have given access to employees to be able to post articles, comments or to make technical changes. You don’t want anybody to post things on your website that are not accurate or even can damage the reputation of your business. Once you put something online, it is not that easy to take it off, especially if many people have seen it already.
