Smartphones are powerful tools that are widely used and that became people’s new “best friend”. According to GWI research, among 170,000 adults that participated in survey, 80% of them own smartphone. Out of those smartphone users 75% are using mobile Internet services on their smartphones.* Sounds familiar? Have you ever been driving around and looking at your smartphone to find restaurant that is nearby or a florist or other service provider or store? Have you ever wondered how does your website look like when people look at it from their cell phone?
Another electronic device that is becoming more and more popular is tablet. Many people use tablets instead of their computers. There are portable and easy to use.
The new area of technology is changing the way people are using the Internet. Responsive Web Design is the way to meet that demand. It is an approach to web design aimed at creating sites to provide an optimal viewing experience across wide range of electronic devices- from computers, laptops, tablets to smartphones. Responsive Website Design (also called RWD) adapts the layout of the site to the device that is used for viewing. So how does it look like in practice? I can look at the same website from different devices and the site will look slightly different. It gets adjusted to the device to enhance user’s experience. Have you ever tried to look at the regular website on your cell phone? Everything is so small you can barely read it. Clicking on the link seems to be impossible and frustrating… Isn’t it much easier to be able to see adjusted site where you only see relevant things on your cell phone, buttons and links are proportional to the phone and you can easily find them and click on them?
I have come across saying that 2013 is the year of Responsive Website Design. Was your website built before 2013? It may be a good idea to pull it up on the tablet or cell phone and check it out. Does it look the same as when you open it on your desktop computer? If yes, you are due for an update.
